The Expendables 2 The Review

Assalamualaikum / Peace be Upon You

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Last week, the second movie of The Expendables had been released worldwide. I went and watch the movie yesterday. I'm a fan of action heroes movies since I was a little kid. I've been watching Terminator movies, Die Hard movies, Universal Soldier movies and other action movies. Let me get this fact right, The Expendables movies are made as a tribute towards all of those action movies thus you are not watching it for the plot or storyline but for the action scenes.

The story stars off where the Expendables went to Nepal to rescue a Chinese billionaire only to find Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to be captured also by the guerrilla when he was going to rescue the billionaire. As the story progress, they introduced to the newest member of the group, Billy The Kid (Liam Hemsworth) who is an ex-sniper of the U.S. Army that served during the war at Afghanistan. During this scene, Yin Yang (Jet Li) only made an appearance for about 15 minutes of the movie since his character had to deliver the billionaire back to his country.

Later on, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) were confronted by Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) for the things that the group had done in the first movie and want him to return the favor for not sending them to rot in prison by sending them to retrieve an item from a safe in an airplane that was shot down in Albania. Church sends technical expert Maggie Chan (Yu Nan) with the team to crack the safe.

As the team managed to retrieve the item, they were ambushed by by international criminal and arms dealer Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme), his right-hand man Hector (Scott Adkins) and his mercenary group, the Sangs, who have captured Billy. Vilain (what a generic bad guy name) managed to obtain the item which was a computer containing a blueprint to the location of five tons of refined plutonium abandoned in a mine by the Soviet Union following the Cold War and kills Billy in the process by roundhouse kick Barney's knife to his heart. The team then buries their fallen comrade, swearing revenge on Vilain.

What I love about this movie is the actions. Yes, senseless violence and gore. Not to mentioned they put several references of other action movies in the movie. The ones that I managed to hear and see was from Terminator, Die Hard, Rambo and Universal Soldier. Also they have Chuck Norris inside the movie and put Chuck Norris' internet joke inside it. Which was:
"Once a cobra bit Chuck Norris' leg. After five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died."
Not to mentioned the part where he single-handedly destroys an army of the Sangs. Too bad they didn't put the part of him roundhouse kicking his enemies.

It is fun to see several action heroes that you know from your childhood to be inside one movie. Seeing Van Damme becoming a villain in this movie was entertaining especially hearing his French accent. Scott Adkins were marvelous too, him being the character that you love to hate. Chuck Norris is just pure awesomeness, too bad he won't be in the next sequel. Terry Crews... Well.. He's Terry Motherfuckin' Crews, what do you want from him? Dolph Lungdren returns as the somewhat mentally challenged member of the team. Randy Couture also returns for the sake of being the glue of the team.

Personally, I love this movie. Even though I a lot of people said the movie sucks, I still love it because of the actions. You don't watch action movies for the plot, it's like you are saying that you watch porn for the plot. If you are a fan of action movies, you should watch this movie. The movie where bad guys can't shoot shit.

Salam

Liam Hemsworth, the brother of Chris Hemsworth as Billy The Kid
Jean Van Damme as Jean Vilain and Scott Adkins as Hector, his right-hand man
Chuck Norris as Booker, Barney's long lost friend and the Lone Wolf
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Trench, Barney's rival returns to pay his debt. Hasta la vista baby
Bruce Willis as Mr. Church, the CIA agent who went down to the field after being provoked by Barney. Yippe-kay-ay!

Kind of awesome to see 3 legends of action movies to be in one movie

P.S.: I can't wait for the Expendables 3 to come out. Here's some of the news.
In March 2012, Couture stated that a third installment of The Expendables could enter production in late 2012, following the release of The Expendables 2. In April 2012, Steven Seagal said that he had been offered a role in a third film. In August 2012, producer Avi Lerner confirmed that Nicolas Cage had been signed for the potential sequel. He also stated that the producers were intending to bring back the series' current stars, attempting to have Rourke reprise his role, had already approached Clint Eastwood about a role, and had plans to pursue Harrison Ford and to approach Wesley Snipes following his release from prison. Stallone said: "We are thinking about different concepts – the third one is the hardest. The second is the natural progression. The third, that’s when the air gets rare. We’re thinking ambitiously about it... You now have to give audiences something they don’t expect at all – maybe even going into a different genre." In the same month, Norris said that he would not return for a sequel.
